Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and springy to the touch.
While still warm, invert the cake onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar.
Roll the cake up with the towel and let it cool completely.
Unroll the cooled cake, spread with whipped cream or frosting, and optional fruit preserves.
Roll it back up carefully and chill for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
