Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, warm the milk until lukewarm.
  • Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg to the dry ingredients.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  • Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf.
  • Place the loaf in a greased bread pan and cover it again.
  • Allow it to rise for another 30 minutes until doubled in size.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
