Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
In a bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar, then let it sit for 5 minutes.
Add flour and mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, covered.
Divide the dough into small pieces (about 1 inch each).
In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.
Boil each piece of dough for 30 seconds, then remove and drain.
Place the boiled bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush each bite with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
