Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Pour the cherry pie filling into the bottom of the dish and spread evenly.
In a bowl, mix the yellow cake mix with the melted butter until crumbly.
Sprinkle the cake mixture evenly over the cherry filling.
Drizzle almond extract over the top if using.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream on top.
